Chapter one
He stared into the tanned skin and purple velvet cloths of the Jade Brotherhood member. Dane was perched atop a roof, waiting to make his move, and his brother Sanji on the roof parallel to it for back-up. Dane finally saw an opening, and struck. He lunged forward and dove his deep red daggers into the neck of the Jade brotherhood member. Dane released his grasp and the body fell to the ground. Sanji jumped from the roof and returned to his brother. “Aww, C’mon! You never let me have any fun!” said Sanji. Dane replied, “Hey, first come, first serve!” They both stared at each other, and burst out laughing. Sanji sheathed his fire staff onto his back, as Dane put his daggers into his leg pouch. “Sanji, when we get back to the market, a drink on me. I could probably go for a beer. You thirsty?” He looked back to his brother, who was staring in the other direction. “Yo, Sanji, what is it” Dane looked. He saw exactly what Sanji saw. He wet his fatigues. And they both ran.
The two sat in the bar, not speaking to anyone about the incident that had happened two days earlier. As Dane was about to take another drink of beer, a shadow approached him from behind, and a high voice followed. “Hi, Guys!” The voice startled Dane, making him spill his beer. He turned around, slightly wet, and saw their guild leader, Rain. She was wearing a light blue monk tunic, and had a cheerful smile on her face. Dane gave her a sullen look. Rain looked and saw his empty beer glass, and his soaked gear. “Oops, Sorry!” she gave a forced laugh, and Dane spoke. “You owe me a beer. What is it?” The monk replied, “The festival begins next week, and we need some help! Our guild volunteered to hang up the decorations. Avari, Mei and Pantho are already out there!” Dane looked out the window and saw the guild hanging up lanterns.
“Aww, C’mon, Rain! Do we have too? Cant we just go kill stuff?” Said Sanji. “No, you whiny baby! Do you want the celestial pig to come or not?” Dane replied, “Which one means less work?” The guild leader replied ,with the vain on her forehead about to burst “Hey, either you see the pig, or you see Grenth.” The two went outside and began to work.
They both greeted their members. While Sanji and Panthor chatted, Dane stared at the big, purple scar above Mei Si’s eye. They both had eye contact. She approached him and said, “Look, why do you always stare at me? Do you have a question about the scar?” Dane stuttered, “ Well, Um….”
Mei replied, “ DO YOU?”
“…. Yes.”
“What’s your question?”
“What’s
with the scar?”
”It was an underworld incident when I
was ten. HAPPY?!?”
“In a way.”
Mei stormed off, pissed. Dane wasn’t really happy though. He had wet his fatigues.
